Navigating the TPE Web Home Page

The home page is divided into four main sections:

Map Page Sections Annotated

1 – Left-Hand Navigation Bar

The left-hand navigation bar contains the following elements:

  • Links to other pages within the app
  • Help and About links
  • Language Selector Control
  • Sign-in and Sign-out Controls

You can expand or collapse the navigation bar using the open/close button at the lower right-hand corner.

2 – Map

The map contains the following elements:

  • A map showing the primary pin (red) and some azimuth lines: the primary pin is the location for which the displayed data is calculated, for example, the time and direction of sunrise or moonset
  • Date and Event controls, shown at the top left of the map, allowing you to adjust the selected date or to access the annual event list
  • Data Badges, also at the top left below the Date and Event controls, showing the latitude, longitude, time zone, and elevation of the primary pin location
  • Map Control Buttons, shown at the top right, to control the primary pin location and optionally enable the secondary map pin (gray)
  • Scale, Map Zoom, and Attribution controls at the bottom of the map, to understand the data shown and to adjust the map zoom level

3 – Right-Hand Sidebar

The right-hand sidebar contains most of the tools you’ll interact with regularly while using TPE. The top of the sidebar shows a number of icons, each of which corresponds to a tab containing different sets of functionality. At the bottom of the sidebar are buttons for pop-up modal forms and a button to collapse or expand the sidebar.

4 – Scrollable Altitude Chart

The chart below the map shows the altitude (or elevation angle relative to the true horizon) of the selected bodies or targets. By default, the chart shows the Sun and Moon, but you can change that in the Bodies and Targets panel of the right-hand sidebar. The change in altitude is displayed over time. You can click and drag to adjust the selected time of day or use the arrow keys to nudge forward or backward.
