How to Share Plans from TPE Web

TPE Web gives you several ways to share your plans with friends or colleagues, or refer to them outside the app.

You can send someone a link that opens in TPE Web or the TPE mobile apps, add a planned shot to your calendar, open a location in Google Maps, or save a 3D view as an image with selected shot details and a QR code.

Shared links can preserve much more than a location. Depending on your current setup, they may also include the selected date and time, secondary pin position, Field of View settings, Visual Search setup, and other planning details.

Opening the Share menu

To share your current planning setup, click the Share button in the lower-right corner of the Map or 3D page.

Access the Share menu in the lower right corner of TPE Web

  1. Click to open the Share menu

The Share menu provides several options:

  1. Copy the link to your current setup.
2. Share to Facebook or use your browser or operating system’s sharing options, where available.
  3. Add the current setup to a calendar using a calendar file (.ics), Google Calendar, or Outlook.com.
  4. Open a pin in Google Maps or get directions to it.
  5. Create a shortened ephemer.is link for easier sharing. (Requires a PRO or MAX subscription.)

Note: Please use discretion when sharing photo location information.

Sharing your current setup

When you copy or share a link, TPE Web includes information from your current planning setup so that it can be reopened later or shared with someone else. Depending on what you’re working with, the link may include the selected location, date and time, secondary pin, Field of View settings, Visual Search setup, and other planning details.

Shared links can be opened in TPE Web or the TPE mobile apps. If you’re interested in the details of how the URL is constructed, see TPE URL Parameters.

Sharing a Visual Search

If you share a Visual Search, the link includes the current search setup rather than the search results themselves. When someone opens the link in TPE Web, the Visual Search is loaded as an Unsaved search. After signing in, they can select Search to run it.

Sharing from your device

The OS (operating system) share button is displayed only in browsers that support the Navigator Share API – a relatively new standard that is not yet universally adopted. At the time of writing, you should see it in Safari on macOS. It will display OS-specific sharing options.

Creating a shorter link

With a PRO or MAX subscription, you can shorten the full share link using ephemer.is.

You can let TPE create the shortened URL automatically, or enter a custom path of at least six characters before clicking Shorten URL.

For a custom path, choose something short and descriptive enough to recognize later – for example, a location, subject, or planned shot name – and avoid including information you would not want visible in the URL. These custom short link names are first come, first served. Certain custom links are reserved. Do not use shortened links for archival or permanent reference purposes – instead, use the fully expanded original link.

Adding a plan to your calendar

From the Share menu, you can add the current planning setup to your calendar using a calendar file (.ics), Google Calendar, or Outlook.com.

For Google Calendar and Outlook.com, TPE Web opens a pre-filled event in a new tab so you can review or edit it before saving. The event starts at the selected time in TPE and runs for one hour. The one-hour event is based on the selected time in TPE – it does not include travel or setup time. If you need time to travel, hike to the location, find your exact shooting position, or set up your equipment, adjust the event time accordingly before saving it.

The event includes the planned location and a TPE link so you can return to the planning setup from your calendar.

If you choose Calendar file (.ics), TPE Web creates a calendar file that you can open in a compatible calendar app.

Opening a location in Google Maps

From the Share menu, you can open the primary pin in Google Maps or get directions to it from your current location.

If the secondary pin is enabled, you’ll also see options to open it in Google Maps or get directions to that location.

Saving a 3D view as an image

From the 3D page, you can save the current scene as an image to share or keep for reference.

  1. Click to save the view as an image

Before saving, choose which planning details to include. Depending on the current setup, these can include:

  • Date and time
  • Place
  • Shot details
  • Plan name (if the current view comes from a saved Shot Plan)
  • A QR code that opens the view in TPE Web

The QR code is useful if you want the image itself to lead back to the planning setup later. Someone can scan it to reopen the scene in TPE Web.
